Let the holiday shopping begin!

You probably already spent quite sometime doing you holiday shopping during El buen fin, Black Friday and Cyber Monday…. But how about those unique local gifts that you would like to take back to your country this holiday season?

These days a great option for holiday shopping are local markets and San Luis Potosí has many of those.

Here is a mini guide to my favorite local markets, Let the holiday shopping begin!

Design  Markets

Mercadillo CEART

El Mercadillo CEART is a design + innovation market hosted by El Centro de las Artes (An arts center in a beautiful building). Expositors don’t pay to be on the market (as they have to in any other market)  but they have to submit a proposal and pass the selection filter. The stands are very well curated, lots of art, cool design, crafts, antiques and hand made items as well as very interesting and innovative projects. Of course there are food trucks and craft beer to go with. This is the largest local market and the only one of its kind, really worth visiting.

Information: Mercadillo Ceart @ Centro de las Artes de San Luis Potosí, Calzada de Guadalupe 705, Col. Julian Carrillo.

Hours: 12:00 to 17:00

Pet Friendly, Family Friendly, OK for kids but no kids activities.

Admission: $35 MXP

Frequency: Monthly, on a Sunday

Buy Local markets

Movimiento Urbano  (Former Mercadito Urbano)

Movimiento Urbano is one of my favorite markets to discover and buy diverse local products, it is located inside the Parque Morales (by the main entrance).

There’s food, soft drinks, hard drinks (Mezcal anyone?), botanas, hand made items, crafts, design, cool one of a kind clothing, eco products and much much more to shop.

Food trucks and live music to complete the combo. Kids can enjoy different activities through the day and other activities such as outdoor yoga classes are also held.

This is definitely your best option if you want to shop for original gifts 100% Made in San Luis Potosi. My holiday gifts wish list include clothes and handbags from Etnica Fusión, eco conscious natural hair and beauty products from Menstruación Consciente, crochet ponchos for my kids and for my dog from Gmy Moog and some fruit macerated Mezcal from Kutzi Mezcal.

Products are mostly focused on Kids and Parenting, baby carriers, baby and kids handmade clothing and accessories, healthy locally made snacks, cloth diapers etc. They always feature at least 2 food and drinks stands and there is a free mini conference about Family and parenting related subjects as well as special events. The market is thought to be a hangout spot for moms where they can shop, sell and hopefully lean towards a more eco conscious way of life. Light snacks and refreshments will be for sale.
